All living things need water to thrive. The first sign that your plant may be struggling is change of leaf color or wilting. The most common problem is too little water. The best way to check for proper plant moisture is to use your hand to feel the soil around base of plant.
Over-watering plants is also a concern and does more harm than good. Plants will struggle in soil that is full of water and this occurs often in heavy clay soil which is very common in Missouri and Kansas. The signs are almost identical with too little water.
